The Gerace lab studies the mechanisms of nucleocytoplasmic transport of proteins and nucleic acid-protein complexes, and the control of intranuclear signaling and compartmentalization by proteins of the nuclear envelope. They have identified previously uncharacterized Rev-RRE-interacting proteins by proteomic analysis, and are analyzing the functions of these proteins in the nuclear export, metabolism and cytoplasmic trafficking of HIV mRNA using biochemical, cell biological and imaging procedures.
